“ESA”: Environment-friendly packaging
Modern eco-compatible packaging design has to consider that natural resources are limited and should be used sensibly.
So Ghelfi Ondulati, totally respecting these criteria, have projected ESA , a tray for the transport of fruit and vegetable products which, by means of special reinforcements, multiplies the characteristics of an ordinary tray .
The main benefits of ESA compared with other trays in use today are as follows:
-USE OF RAW MATERIAL
Size (and volume) being equal, ESA packaging saves up to 10% of raw material.
Every year about 250 million square metres of corrugated cardboard are used for the packaging of fruits and vegetables alone. Our tray could considerably contribute to reducing the amount of raw material used by an estimated 30,000 tons per year.
-MECHANICAL RESISTANCE
Though made with a considerable saving of raw materials an ESA tray offers up to twice the resistance to vertical crushing in critical circumstances compared with a traditional tray. This ensures the integrity of the goods in all phases of their journey.
-RECYCLABILITY
ESA trays are high-quality eco-friendly packages made with paper which has not been treated with paraffin.
The high performance and structural resistance of the tray offer the most effective protection against extreme humidity and damp. The packaging is completely recyclable after use since it is not treated with paraffin or any other kinds of protective coating.
-ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION
The ESA packaging is certified FSC and PEFC. It is made of material provided by European factories that support sustainable forest management and span economic, social and environmental concerns.
-LOGISTICS
The use of ESA trays is also advantageous for the customers in the distribution chain since, thanks to its reduced surface area, each loading unit can transport from 15 to 25% more trays in relation to the format.
-AIR CIRCULATION
The unique geometry of the ESA tray maximises air circulation inside the footboards providing a rapid and stable refrigeration of fruits contained in it. This feature allows a reduction in the refrigeration times of the products before shipping and , what is more, makes the temperature distribution inside the trailer truck more effective and homogeneous during transport. Both factors result in a considerable reduction of energy costs and significantly lengthen the commercial life of the goods.

Being completely open at the top, the ESA tray is easy to manage even when using modern end- of -line equipment for automatic packing
